I think I say this every week, but this season is turning out to be quite an epic season and it looks like tonight will not disappoint. I mean come on, Roddy Piper is guest starring, it doesn’t get much better than that… As always I’ll be back tomorrow with a full rundown of the episode.

The Gang Wrestles for the Troops

The gang stages a wrestling show for returning troops. Meanwhile, Dee meets a soldier she’s been talking to online; but he isn’t what she expected. Roddy Piper guest stars.

“Ah, yes, that is Hulk Hogan’s signature look, blonde chinese hair and the skin of a hot dog, it’s awesome”.

The episode starts off with the gang sitting around watching old Hulk Hogan wrestling videos on Dee’s laptop. The guys think it’s fake, but Frank claims it’s definitely real. Dee then receives an instant message from an American Soldier in Iraq that she has been talking to as Desert Rose. Mac then comes to the conclusion that people these days aren’t proud to be Americans. So Charlie suggests that “wrastling” is the best way to celebrate America and to show their appreciation the guys decide to put on a wrestling match.

Since Halloween is coming up this weekend and I’ve already done my Halloween Horror Movie Recommendations for this year and with the success of Paranormal Activity this past weekend, I thought I would make another horror movie type post related to the Point-of-View (P.O.V.) / First Person / Found Footage type movies out there. Many people seem to believe that The Blair Witch Project was the first movie to successfully use this style to captivate, scare or straight up terrify an audience, but little do they know that there were others that came before it, most notably Cannibal Holocaust which was the inspiration for The Blair Witch Project film style.

So I thought I’d take the time to put together a decent list of other (mostly horror) movies that were shot in the same style of the current phenomenon that is Paranormal Activity and The Blair Witch Project. I have personally seen all of these except the last 2, which are currently on my Netflix list and I hope to see them as soon as I can. If there are any other movies in this style that I missed, horror or not, please let me know in the comments.

Cannibal Holocaust (1980) – As far as I am aware (please correct me if I’m wrong) this is the first movie to utilize the idea of “found footage” that shows the main characters’ point of view as they experience something truly terrifying. In this case “An anthropologist heads a rescue party into the South American jungle to find a missing film team making a documentary on cannibal tribes but can only return with their footage, which reveals their crueler intentions.” The first part of the movie follows the normal film style as this anthropologist goes out to South America to find the film crew, but once he returns with only their footage the movie jumps to that very footage for almost the full remainder of the film. This movie has been highly criticized since the day it was released. After the screening in Italy the film maker was promptly arrested until he could prove that the actors in the movie were actually still alive and that he didn’t just create a snuff film to show to audiences. Despite being released and not charged after proving the actors were still alive many counties opted to ban the movie entirely due to it’s depiction of violence and gore, not to mention the actual slaughtering of animals on camera. And actually, because of the slaughterings on the latest release of the DVD there is a PETA friendly version that does not contain the killings. This movie is definitely not for the faint of heart, I own the DVD and it is probably 1 of 2 movies that I will never watch again due to how disturbing and real some of the scenes are. (IMDB)

South Park: Whale Whores (10/28/09)

I completely forgot that I used to post the synopsis for South Park on here every week, my bad. This week actually sounds exactly like a previous episode which is strange, usually Matt and Trey are good about not doing something they’ve already done, but this one sounds exactly like the episode where the boys go to the aquarium and find the whale that they think can talk and send it to the moon. I guess we’ll just have to see tonight when this one airs. So far I’ve been pretty impressed with the episodes, Dead Celebrities was good and then Butters as the pimp was really good, but I was a little disappointed with the wrestling episode last week. Not sure why, but maybe I’ll have to re-watch it as a couple friends said they loved it…

Whale Whores

Stan vows to sae the dolphins after the family visit to an aquarium in Denver on his birthday is marred by mass slaughter of aquatic mammals.

Talk about a great episode, wow. From the very beginning of the show to the very end, everything about this episode was great. “Fuck you whale, fuck you dolphin”. I was worried that we were going to get a similar plot line to the episode where the kids saved a whale by strapping it to a rocket and sending it to the moon, but boy was I wrong. The Japanese wreak havoc on all whales and dolphins (including the Miami Dolphins) as the boys try to stop them. Stan, in particular, joins up with Whale Wars, that show on Discovery, and tries to help out only to discover that those guys don’t actually do anything. So when the captain is harpooned through the face, Stan takes over and the show gains popularity because stuff is actually happening now. It gains so much popularity that the guys on The Deadliest Catch are jealous and try to put a stop to them only to have their plans thwarted by whales. In the end it turns out that the Japanese are killing all the whales and dolphins because they believe that the animals were responsible for the dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan. Why would they think this you ask? Well because the day after the bombs were dropped the United States was nice enough to forward on so pictures they captured of the plane that dropped the bombs and control of the plane was a dolphin and a whale. So instead of telling the Japanese what really happened Stan gets Kyle to doctor up another image showing a Chicken and a Cow were the real masterminds behind the bombing, thus leading to the Japanese killing all Chicken and Cows instead of Whales and Dolphins.

It’s getting close to that time, one of the most anticipated games of all time, Modern Warfare 2, is set to hit the shelf on November 10th (11/10/09), but where is the best place to make your purchase, well that’s what we’re here to find out. There is no doubt that different stores are going to have different specials going on for the game whether it’s an add-on, exclusive content or what, but I’m more concerned about getting the best overall price for the game itself. I don’t need any fancy special edition of the game, I don’t need the night vision goggles that come with the $100+ prestige edition, I just want the game itself. And even though $60 for this game is going to be well worth the amount of playing time I will get out of it (I still play CoD4: Modern Warfare to this day), I still want to get the best deal out there. Hey, if stores want to compete to have me buy the game at their location,  I have no problem with that. So below we will be holding a running list of the deals that come out for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Amazon – $59.99 – Pre-order right now and get a $20 video game credit good towards your next purchase. Plus Amazon is offering release date delivery meaning the game will show up in your mailbox on the 10th, if you’re not an amazon prime member release date shipping is $5.98.

GameFanattic.com – $54.99 + $2.24 shipping = $57.23. Will ship before release date, but will not be delivered before the 10th.

Toys-R-Us – $59.99 – Free $20 Gift card if you purchase the game on Nov. 10th between 10am – 2pm (must be a Toys-R-Us reward zone member)

Wal-Mart.com – $59.82 – Pre-order right now and get a $20 e-gift card which can be used for any future purchase on walmart.com
