I see a lot of people ending up at other articles on this site from searches for the care package glitch and the post they are ending up at claims that the care package glitch was fixed in the last update, which it was. The care package GLITCH that was referred to in the last update was the glitch where people could get unlimited care packages. I don't believe there is any other care package glitch, but apparently a lot of people feel that the fact that you run a little faster while hold a care package smoke canister is a glitch. Personally I don't think it's a glitch in the same way that the javelin glitch was a glitch or the unlimited care package glitch was a glitch. I don't really see anything that would indicate that this was a "glitch".
If anything this care package "glitch" is more comparable to the Akimbo Model 1887's being able to shoot and be much more deadly than they should be at such a long range, so more of a balance issue. Despite what you think, the people running around with the care package smoke grenade in hand can't knife you from any further than a normal person running around can, it only seems that way because they are running faster than most people. So combine that with the commando perk and you have what appears to be someone knifing you from much further than they should be able to.
Now I'm not saying that I don't think this should be rebalanced, because I do, but it's not a glitch! If there is any glitch at all it's only in the way the person running, with said canister, appears. He's all hunched over like he's trying to speed walk and take a shit at the same time, which makes it a little more difficult to shoot at them. So I don't mind that they run a little faster (although it should be pretty comparable to holding a pistol and running), but the way they run is a little annoying and may need to be rethought.
What do you guys think? A lot of you have ended up here searching for answers to this one. Do you really think it's a glitch and needs to be patched?
Update 2/2/10: So it appears that this latest patch was supposed to fix the unlimited care package glitch, and while it did fix 1 way of doing it, there is still another method for getting unlimited care packages. Infinity Ward is aware of the issue as noted in a Twitter post by Robert Bowling, but my question is why can't they eliminate this thing once and for all? Why is it so hard to patch this... I was getting extremely annoyed with people doing this in a game I was in over the weekend that I eventually just started knifing the people on my own team that were doing it (Hardcore TDM). It's ruining the game and IW needs to squash it once and for all... it's almost as bad as the javelin glitch.
Update 2/4/10: I'm not sure if this is correct, but from what I've gathered after reading some sites and Tweets, Infinity Ward pulled the Xbox 360 patch back (the one that was already in place on PC and PS3) in order to fix the other care package glitches that still plague the system. So hopefully when it finally does roll out it will fix everything once and for all because it is getting quite annoying now. And I will continue to file complaints about every single person that I see doing it, even if they only do it once.
Update 2/12/10: Looks like the latest update has been approved by MS and is being rolled out to Xbox 360's and hopefully will rid the world of the care package glitch once and for all. Find out everything the recent patch fixed here.
I think the argument between “glitch”, “mistake” and “we meant to put it into the game to ‘F’ over people who aren’t dicks” sometimes get blurred.
“Gitch” to me refers to things like the Javelin issue. Case closed.
“Mistake” refers to things like the care package speed running.
“We meant to put it into the game to ‘F’ over people who aren’t dicks” refers to things like the shotguns which have unrealstic range. Or the ability to get on the roof in Highrise if you try hard enough.
The third category is the reason I only play sports games online with people I know. Sports games ALWAYS have ways to take advantage. In past NCAA football games, you get a fast QB, roll out and if no one is open you take off and get a first down everytime.
For some reason, people think it’s fun to do jerky things and ruin everyone else’s fun.
There is a unlimited care package glitch that works perfectly was as of 60 seconds ago.
hold a care package
climb any object where you have to press ‘a’ to climb
double press D pad to the right to switch from care package to weapon and back to care package before you complete your climb.
throw care package
use care package
you have another care package just like magic
repeat as often as you’d like.
That’s going to be easy to fix.
As far as the marathon, light weight, commando (with t. knife) – care package glitch (you run almost 50% faster then normal) I have a simple fix.
Why not change the way care packages are handled when you are killed? If you are holding a care package and are shot.. you drop it. (care package is called in at that location)
That fixes that problem right there.

Think about this, you’ve already called in a care package, you get hit, you drop the switch to activate it. The next thing you know, you have a little red smoking canister floating out that that would make a great decoy.
That’s insanely evil. It will never happen though, because you “earned” the care package. It’s a killstreak reward.
2. Nick, please proofread before you post. It’s GLITCH, not GITCH…Cripes…
a. You said the “ability to get to the roof in Highrise”? It’s easy, get a running start, at the ledge hit the jump button aka the A button, let go of all of your controller sticks, triggers, buttons, etc. Shimmy up the scaffold, try to make it to the other scaffold on the other side using the wooden ledge, set up tactical insert, FLIP SPAWN and shoot em in the back. You die, you set up your TI again. Hopefully, someone hasn’t made it to you yet to blow you away or received the awarding of a harrier strike/B1 strike to drop on your nog nog. If you go the whole round on the roof, you played well.
b. You say mistakes in programming, no it’s the exploitation of the game from some moron who has no fuggin’ life with nothing to do all fuggin’ day but sit in front of his XB and figure this stuff out.
They’re the ones who suck with their crap ass KD. The ratio that DETERMINES how good you are! It can always be increased to denote your improvement and it will decrease when you get your digital ass handed to you.
My team has seen and faced every glitch in this game to include a gamer who decided to run/attack/run/attack with Marathon, Lightweight, and Commando Pro on. I was on a WALL! Out of REACH and somehow he got me! Why? HE WAS CHEATING! He WAS on my friendlist and I removed him. Oh, and his KD was only .87 at the time! .8 and 7 You know what tells me, he’s an average gamer as most of the 4 million plus on MW2 are.
I’ve seen the leaders on the board(s). I see some who have a killsteak of over 300? Yes, BOOSTER!!!! = GAY!
And, for beginners in the FPS environment, you want to turn their lives into a living hell, have someone hit you from across the map with an 1887 crap shotgun. (THANK GOD THAT THEY FIXED THIS!!!!)
I’m so tired of having to back out of a game lobby to file complaints on people who I am sure are cool in real life. BUT hey, if you don’t want to abide by the user’s agreement that you paid for though XBL, you should have your IP address banned from being able to get online.
The only way they are going to enforce this is to become more stringent on gamers. They can go play for free on PlayStation for all I care. As long as they’re not in my digital environment, I’m cool with it.

HORSE: I still love the game and continue to play it, but since the “climbing” method was discovered to be so easy, this glitch has become almost as prevalent as the javelin glitch. I just hope this is it and there aren’t any major, gameplay affecting glitches after this…. (although I’m sure there will be)
infinite care package glitch is not fixed and i’m not playing the game online again until it is. it sucks because this is my primary choice for online games and everyone using it, which seems like just about everyone, is definately taking the fum out of the game. i have run into a few people who have gone back to world at war who agree with me and can’t wait for bad company 2 to hit the shelves. please, activision, infinity ward, whoever, fix the problem

fukiw: The patch for the initial “climb care package glitch” was patched over a week ago and submitted to Microsoft, it’s them that cause the delay in the patches making it to the systems. The patch for PC and PS3 were made early last week, so it’s not really IW’s fault in the amount of time it takes for the patches to make it to the system, although I do think they should have patched every instance of the glitch before even submitting it in the first place.
