Westcoast Baseball Trip – Tickets Purchased

Since we're leaving in less than a week, and the theme of the posts today seems to be baseball, I figured I'd give an update on our trip.

We're flying out of Chicago early next Tuesday and will make it out to LA around 2:30PM (we have a layover in Houston). We'll then drop our bags off at a friends place and head over to Anaheim to watch the Angels take on the Dodgers that night. The next day we're just going to hang out in LA with our buddy and see the sights, I've been there before but P hasn't so I'm sure we'll be very touristy.

The day after that we also have nothing going on, but are going to make our way up to San Francisco/Oakland and check that out before we go to the Oakland vs. Pirates game on Friday the 25th, and from then on out it's a pretty packed schedule. We have San Francisco vs Boston on Saturday the 26th. After that game we're gonna try to make it at least half way back to LA because we have the Dodgers vs. Yankees game on the 27th and then on the 28th it's down to San Diego to see the Padres play the Rockies and on the 29th it's back up to LA to fly back home.

I think it's gonna be a fun trip. We're going to be pretty busy which is a good thing, I'm not one who really likes to have downtime while on vacation (unless of course that is what the vacation is about, like our Mexico trip). It's going to be interesting to see if we can make it to all these places in the California traffic, but I'm sure we'll manage just fine. It's also nice that we have friends in both LA and San Diego that we'll get to see. I only hope that I can get the people sitting in the seats next to us to give me their real tickets to the games since all of ours were "Print at Home" tickets due to how fast we planned the trip.

Westcoast Baseball Trip

If you've read any of the "Travels" category on the site, you know that a couple years ago me and 2 buddies drove from Chicago to the East Coast, hitting up multiple baseball stadiums and hall of fames along the way in our quest to see every baseball stadium in the country. Well we are now headed out to California in a couple weeks to hit up all 5 of the stadiums there in 7 days. It's not going to be easy, but it'll definitely be worth it. We've also lost a member of the group this time to a wedding so it's just me and P headed out there. We have a couple friends out there that we are going to visit and maybe they'll even come to a couple games with us, so it won't just be us in a car together for 7 days straight.

Our schedule is pretty set in stone so this is what we'll be doing. We are flying from Chicago to LAX with a layover in Houston on June 22nd. We'll get into LA around 2:30PM and that night we'll head over to Anaheim to see the Angels play. We'll then spend the entire next day (23rd) hanging out in LA and seeing the town with Burman. On the 24th we'll pack up and start the drive up to Oakland/San Francisco where we'll be seeing the Athletics on the 25th and the Giants on the 26th. After the Giants game on the 26th we're going to start our drive back down towards LA, hopefully making it about 1/2 way. We'll then wake up and drive the rest of the way back to LA in time for the Dodgers game at 7PM on the night of the 27th. On the 28th we'll wake up pretty early and drive down to San Diego to check out the town for the day and then enjoy the Padres game that night. And on the 29th, we'll hang out in San Diego for a little bit before we have to drive back up to LAX in time for our 5:30PM flight out of LAX, direct, back to Chicago.

So it's a little crammed towards the end, but it's better than having a lot of down time in my opinion. When we did the East Coast trip we ended up with a lot of downtime in between games and found ourselves going to movies to kill time.... seems kind of pointless to go all the way out there to see a movie. Plus it was hard enough finding a week where all 5 California teams were playing at home at the same time, so it's hard to be picky. The only drive that's a little annoying is getting back to LA after getting up to San Francisco/Oakland. The way up there isn't bad because we have an entire day to do so, but on the way back we have to be back in LA the next night for a game and I really don't want to be stuck in traffic around LA while trying to get there.

Aventura Spa Palace Riviera Maya Mexico

We just got back from our 1st vacation in a couple years and I wanted to make a quick post regarding the resort that we stayed at and the service we received. Normally when you hear an article starting off like this you immediately think that something terrible must have happened, because why else would someone else take to the internet if not to bitch about something... Well I assure you that our experience at the Aventura Spa Palace in the Riviera Maya area of Mexico was anything but terrible and I just wanted to take a minute to post about our wonderful experience.

When we first started looking at resorts in the area we only had a few stipulations; had to be all-inclusive, there needed to be a direct flight, and it had to be adults only (gf's choice, I didn't really mind either way at the time). We didn't want to stay in Cancun because we're not 18 anymore and I didn't really want to go to Cabo and my girlfriend had just been there last year anyways, so we knew that the Riviera Maya would be a good choice, but we had no clue how to pick from the hundreds of resorts in the area. We did the normal research, trip advisor, expedia, etc, to try and find a good deal and a well  reviewed place, but it seemed like people had gripes about every place we looked at. We finally ended up going over to a travel agency in town and talking with them about what our options were and what our best bet was and it was there that we decided on the Aventura Spa Palace.

The 'Palace' had everything that we wanted, it was an hour south of Cancun, Adults Only, All-Inclusive and there are plenty of direct flights out of O'Hare to Cancun. The only thing we were a little worried about was the price, it was a little more expensive than some of the other places in the area. This actually wasn't a problem though, after we discovered that the resort includes a "Passport" deal where a bunch of excursions are included in the overall price whether you go on them or not. So while we would have paid upwards of $100 per person to do the ziplining tour and the Mayan ruins at Tulum, through this resort we paid nothing extra. So that right there sealed the deal, we booked up through the travel agency and awaited our departure. (click through the jump to read the rest).

Want To Pay Less For Air Travel?

If you've never heard of Shoemoney or read his blog I suggest heading over there to check it out. Actually, if you want more information about this article you're going to have to head over there anyways. He basically blogs about how to make money on the internet, or rather, how he makes money on the internet. He talks about the different trends in making money, advertising techniques, his experiences with this stuff, and sometimes he just talks about ways he saves money or just nothing at all.

I just checked the site and found he had written this great article about how to get up to 80% off on your air travel. It's actually really simple. His example is going from Nebraska to Minnesota. If he takes a direct flight it would cost him about $800, but if he goes from Nebraska to St Louis, with a lay over in Minnesota, the flight only costs him $165. So basically he takes the first plane to Minnesota, where he is trying to go, and never boards the plane headed to St. Louis, since he's only adding that leg to get the discount. Head on over to his site and read the full article, it's not long and has screenshots of everything and explain why this is like this. And check out some of his other posts, they are pretty interesting if you're into this kind of stuff.
