South Park: Crippled Summer (4/28/10)

Let's see how South Park bounces back after being [unfairly] censored last week. Judging by the plot synopsis for tonight it sounds like there could be some very offensive stuff going on, but I'm sure it won't lead to Comedy Central feeling they need to ban the characters of Timmy and Jimmy after complaints from the disabled people of the world... I'm just speculating here, I'm not aware of any death threats on Matt and Trey from people with disabilities. So how do you think Jimmy will do in the surfing competition?

Crippled Summer

Jimmy and Timmy go to summer camp with a winner-take-all attitude in a variety of contests, including Jimmy's participation in a surfing competition.

I thought this week's episode was decent. I'm glad they brought Towlie back, I missed that guy and the Intervention mock was classic. I'm not sure if I really liked the whole Cripple Camp thing, not because it offended me, but it just wasn't that funny. The running gag of the big idiot always screwing up the captain's instructions started to get old, but I will say that when the shark started raping him I lost it. So I don't really have much else to say about the episode, it was a little 'meh' in my book, but definitely not the worst episode I've seen.

What did you guys think?

South Park: 201 (4/21/10)

This week's South Park is a continuation of last week's 200th episode. We were left hanging at the end of last week without word as to whether or not they were going to finish the story, but thankfully they are.

201

The identity of Cartman's dad is on everyone's mind despite threats from the ginger kids about Muhammad and enraged celebrities who have harnessed the power of Mecha Streisand.

The continuation of the epic 200th episode was actually pretty good. It continued the idea of bringing back old characters and other aspects of previous episodes, but did so without making it a normal clip show, which I thought was genius.  I thought everything about the episode was good, but I still have a question... Did Comedy Central bow to the threats from the Muslim community and make Matt and Trey bleep out the use of the word Muhammad, or did they choose to do that? I know at the end of the episode that used the bleeps to continue a running joke by basically bleeping out what everyone learned during the 2 episodes, but I'm still not sure as to whether the word Muhammad was originally supposed to be bleeped. It just doesn't seem like Matt and Trey to bleep something, but I wouldn't put it past Comedy Central.

A few things before I'm done here. I loved how they turned Tom Cruise into a big "censored" bar after he stole Muhammad's goo, showing that he was now immune to being made fun of. And then as soon as Seaman jumped on his back and the kids made mention of it he turned back into Tom Cruise, since he thought he was being made fun of. Good stuff. I also loved the reveal of who Cartman's dad really was. The Scott Tenorman episode is probably my favorite episode of South Park ever, and to bring him back as the king Ginger and then have Cartman's dad turn out to be his dad was incredible. Cartman crying at the very end because he's 1/2 ginger was also good, but kind of predictable.

Overall I've enjoyed the 200-201 episodes that the guys put together and can only hope that we get to see 200 more episodes before the show's run is over.

Update: Just read a couple places that it was indeed Comedy Central's decision, not Matt and Trey, to add the bleeps to this week's South Park. I'm still not sure whether they added just the bleeps when the name Muhammad was mentioned or if they were also responsible for the very long bleeps at the end of the episode... either way, stop being pussies Comedy Central... seriously, what the fuck. South Park has been making fun of all religions since the inception of the show and you now decide that it's not OK to talk about Muhammad. I get that you refused to show his actual cartoon image after 9/11, but you had already showed him in human form in a previous episode in 2001. Ohh, but 9/11 happened and the world was a different place after that... Ok, do you not think that people have protested and made empty threats based on the depictions of other religious figures in South Park's history? For fuck sake, Buddha was snorting coke while Jesus was looking at internet porn last night... Do you really think that those images didn't offend anyone?

I understand it's your network and you have the right to pick and choose what makes it to air, but if you start giving into these empty threats from all these different groups, in regards to South Park, the show is going to turn to shit and Matt and Trey would be smart to take it to another network that will give them the freedom you used to give them. Hell, at this point they could probably be very successful if they just launched the show on the internet where they can have complete freedom over what they choose to show. I understand that the image of Muhammad was censored last night as it was in last week's episode and a previous episode before that, and the fact that Tom Cruise turned into a big "censored" bar was part of the joke, but the bleeping of the word "Muhammad" and the bleeping of almost the entire conclusion of the show was absolutely ridiculous and un-necessary. The threats were made against Trey and Matt, not the network, it should be up to those guys if they feel threatened to the point where they must give in to these demands, and you and I both know they would never give in.

So at least let them run the unedited version on their website so that those of us that are fans of the show can see, and hear, exactly what they intended us to see/hear. And I pray to God (Jesus, Moses, Buddha and the Seaman on Tom Cruise's back, along with the Kiken, Mecha Streisand) that you don't continue to edit these shows to the point that they are almost completely ruined.

Ugh, sorry for the rant, it just really annoyed me when I found out that it was Comedy Central that edited the bleeps into the episode and that they weren't intentional. I knew the "censored" bar was part of the gag, but the bleeps were absolutely unnecessary. Seriously, fuck, it wasn't even Muhammad in the bear costume, it was Santa Claus!

South Park: You Have 0 Friends (4/7/10)

Looks like this week's South Park revolves around Facebook. So far this season has been pretty incredible so hopefully we'll get another quality episode tonight. Below you'll find the plot synopsis, TVguide.com doesn't have one listed today so I hope this one is correct.

You Have 0 Friends

Stan and Kyle have been through so much together over the years, but it all means nothing if Stan won't "friend" Kyle on Facebook.

Kyle "friended" the wrong person and now all of his old friends are deserting him. His situation is desperate. Kyle looks for help from the one person who has always been there for him.

Well it was bound to happen sooner or later and I think this weeks episode of South Park was the first dud of the season, at least for me. The plot followed Stan as he tried to avoid signing up for Facebook because he didn't want to get sucked into it, but when Kyle and Cartman setup an account for him he's forced to add pretty much everyone around him as a friend. This leads to him getting sucked into Facebook, literally, to confront his out of control profile. Meanwhile, Kyle is dealing with the fact that he's losing all his Facebook friends due to the fact that he "friended" an unpopular kid who had 0 friends.

I was pretty disappointed this week, especially coming off such an epic episode last week. I just didn't find this one as funny and amusing as the previous 2, but there's always a few each season that miss the mark. Hopefully next week things will be back on track and we'll get another classic episode.

South Park: Medicinal Fried Chicken (3/31/10)

Tonight we get to see Randy on his quest to obtain medical marijuana and I can only imagine how ridiculous he will be when he's high... if he can get it before Cartman has the place shut down so that he can get his favorite fried chicken restaurant back...

Medicinal Fried Chicken

When a store selling medical marijuana opens on the site of Cartman's favorite fried-chicken joint, Randy is the first in line to buy some weed. But he can't because he's completely healthy. Meanwhile, Cartman will stop at nothing to get the restaurant back.

Pretty solid episode this week. A law has passed banning fast food in low income areas and the first to go is KFC, which does not make Cartman happy. In it's place, in South Park, now stands a Medicinal Marijuana Clinic which makes Randy very happy, except he's healthy and cannot get a referral from his doctor. So in order to obtain legal weed, Randy decides to try and get cancer, testicular cancer to be exact. In order to get testicular cancer he puts his balls in the microwave and when he wakes up the next day his balls are bigger than basketballs, but he doesn't care because now he can smoke legal weed. I thought it couldn't get any better than Randy wheeling his balls around in a wheelbarrow, but when that broke and he had to get home he figured out that he could use his balls like a hippity hop and bounce around on them. Eventually all his friends want to smoke pot too, so they stick their balls in the microwaves as well, and then they all start smoking pot and hopping around on their balls.

Meanwhile, Cartman checks into rehab for KFC withdrawals, but that doesn't help so he turns to the black market. Mirroring Scarface, Cartman starts to smuggle KFC into town, but instead of selling it he ends up eating all of it. He even goes so far as to snort a line of chicken skin. In the end there's a big shootout at the house he was running the operation out of and he runs away.

Randy's doctor starts becoming suspicious as to why 10 men of suddenly come down with testicular cancer and ends up pinning it on the fact that KFC moved out of town right before the cancers set in. So naturally they bring back KFC because they think it's what's been keeping the town healthy and free from testicular cancer. And because of that, they make medical marijuana illegal again. It's a very funny episode with some great parallels to the medical marijuana initiatives as well as the war on drugs... and I still can't get that music out of my head that they were playing when Randy and the guys were hopping around on their balls.

South Park: The Tale of Scrotie McBoogerballs (3/24/10)

This episode of South Park may have the greatest title for a TV show, ever. I just hope it doesn't disappoint us after such a stellar season opener. You'll find the synopsis below.

The Tale of Scrotie McBoogerballs

After being assigned to read a book that was once banned, the boys are inspired to collaborate on one of their own.

Another classic episode if you ask me, but if only for the Sarah Jessica Parker references. I thought "The Tale of Scrotie McBoogerballs" book was a good overall storyline, but the Parker stuff had me in tears.

"And Matthew, how come a transvestite donkey witch is standing next to you, and why is it wearing a dress?"

The main plot followed the boys as they write the grossest, most ridiculous story they could possibly think of in order to prove that "Catcher in the Rye" is boring and not as vulgar as Mr. Garrison made it seem and had no reason to be banned from schools and libraries. Well they succeed in writing a book that makes everyone who reads it puke their brains out, but some how everyone also thinks that it's the greatest thing ever. Hrmmm... touching on the Health Care Bill are we? There was a nice obvious reference to the bill when Randy is reading the newspaper with the headline "Historic Health Bill Passed". It's always cool to see how on top of current events Matt and Trey are, it's also damn impressive that they can throw together an entire episode in a week.

I thought it was a great episode overall, but when they dressed Sarah Jessica Parker as a Moose and set her out in the woods during Moose Hunting Season, I lost it. Good stuff.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I'm also now the proud owner of www.scrotiemcboogerballs.com ... another one of those random domain purchases that I'll never use.
