LOST: Season 6 – What They Died For (5/18/10)

With only 1 more episode, tonight, before the finale we're sure to see some more questions answered and probably even more of them raised. I don't know why people didn't like last weeks episode so much, I thought it was great. I think people just need to realize that not every question is going to get answered because not every answer will move us towards the final resolution. It's not going to be a cut and dry finale, there are going to be things that we never figure out that will be left up to our interpretation. So with that said, here's the synopsis for this weeks episode and I'll be back tomorrow with a small recap, easter eggs and hopefully some theories on how it all will end.

What They Died For

While Jack's group searches for Desmond, Locke comes up with a new plan.

Alright, let's jump into this, there will be spoilers from this week's episode so if you haven't seen it don't bother reading on. We're back to the island reality with flashes of the Alternate Reality again, as opposed to a side story like the Jacob/MIB episode last week. In the island reality Jack and company finally meet up with Jacob, who they can all see, and he explains to them why they are there.... Basically Jacob knew that the Man in Black's whole agenda was to get off the island and in order to do that he needed to find the heart of the island, aka the light in the cave. Jacob knew that the only way that the Man in Black was going to be able to use the light is if he killed Jacob. So knowing that MiB would eventually find a way to kill him, Jacob set out to find a new person to protect the light from MiB, which are the Candidates.

LOST: Season 6 – Across the Sea (5/11/10)

TVguide is really skimping on the plot synopsis' the last couple weeks. I understand we're getting close to the end, but come on guys give me something to work with. On that note, below you'll find the 4 word synopsis for tonight's episode of LOST. I'll be back tomorrow with a recap, easter eggs and theories.

Across the Sea

Locke's motives become clear.

I was reading through Twitter last night after the episode aired and was surprised to see a lot of people didn't like it... I personally thought it was pretty good, aside from maybe the children actors and the mini-flashbacks towards the end of the season, but the rest of it was pretty good. We got quite a few questions answered regarding Jacob and The Man in Black, so lets get into those. This first part is going to be a recap with a few little theories thrown in and after that I will post my other theories. Sorry this one is probably going to be pretty long and long winded (and probably won't make any sense to anyone outside of my head, I had a hard time explaining what I was thinking towards the end).

LOST: Season 6 – Happily Ever After (4/6/10)

Here's the very brief synopsis of this weeks LOST episode. Sounds as if it may be a Desmond episode so hopefully we'll get some information on what's been going on with him before coming back to the island. There were also some fairly significant spoilers in the cast listing for tonight's episode which I've chosen to leave off. I'll be back tomorrow with easter eggs, theories and a recap of the episode.

Happily Ever After

Desmond awakens and discovers that he's on the island.

As expected, this was a Desmond episode and again, we see more of the Alternate Reality than we do of what's actually happening on the island. So, after watching the episode and glancing over the forums I really don't know what to make of this week... From what I've gathered, the AR and the island reality are starting to "come together" or at least in the AR people are starting to realize that there may be another dimension or reality. This is evident in the scene when Charlie pulls the wheel of the car and sends him and Desmond into the water, thus recreating the scene from before when Charlie drowns and of course giving Desmond a glimpse into the island world when Charlie puts his hand on the glass to reveal the same message Charlie wrote before, "Not Pennys Boat". There's also the fact that Daniel Faraday/Widmore (as he's known in the AR) was able to write out a complicated mathematical/physics formula related to an atom bomb or a large amount of energy and in the AR he's a musician and has nothing to do with physics, but he's smart enough to realize that it has to mean something.

There are a bunch of other things in the AR that are almost the opposite of what we saw from before in flashbacks from the island reality, but I don't think those differences were as important as the fact that Desmond has this incredible ability. It's almost as if the electromagnetic energy that he was subject to in Widmore's box experiment was able to transpose his consciousness into the AR or at least allow him to see through the eyes of the AR Desmond (if it was a complete shift in consciousness he would have remembered Penny and everything from the island completely, but he didn't). It seems like Desmond is the key to figuring out how the two realities affect one another or how they come together. It's very similar to the ability to see the future that he gained when subjected to the electromagnetic energy released when the button in the hatch wasn't pressed (which is obviously why Widmore knew he could withstand his box test).

So I'm still not quite sure what to make of the two different realities and how (or if) they will come together in the end, but I'm confident now that Desmond is a key part of figuring out the mysteries of the 2. Now I don't necessarily think that Desmond has a huge role in the game that Jacob and The Man in Black are playing on the island, but I could be wrong. I did find it a little weird that after Widmore subjects Desmond to the experiment, Desmond is acting completely different. Sure you could just argue that he saw the AR and is now more enlightened and willing to go along with Widmore to get more answers and see Penny again, but it also seemed like he was very Jacob-like in his calmness. I'm not saying that the experiment turned Desmond into Jacob, but there are some weird things happening with Desmond that parallel Jacob. Even in the AR Desmond was telling Charlie all about choice just like Jacob... so who knows.

I can't recall anything else sticking out to me in a way that brought me to another theory, but I would like to know what you guys thought. Do you think the two realities are going to merge somehow or do you feel like I kind of do that they are still completely separate, but some things will cross over either in the form of Deja Vu or weird "visions" and dreams, as we saw this week. I think Desmond is the only one that can "see" into the other reality due to the fact that he can withstand the electromagnetism.

One thing I did find kind of cool, as sort of an easter egg that I read on the forums, was that the sound that the smoke monster makes is the same sound as the MRI machine that Desmond was put in. This also goes back to the first season when Rose mentions that she's heard that noise before (when she hears the smoke monster) which would make sense since she has cancer and would probably have been subjected to many MRI's at that point.

So I know I didn't pick up on as much stuff this week and don't have a solid theory yet, but that's pretty much what I came away with this week. So what did I miss and what do you guys think?

LOST: Season 6 – Ab Aeterno (3/23/10)

For fans of LOST this is the episode we've been waiting for, or at least I have. We finally get a glimpse into the world of Richard Alpert and his youthful looks. And for those wondering what the title of this episode means, apparently Ab Aeterno is Spanish and means "Since the beginning of time" or "Since a very long time ago".  Synopsis is below and I'll be back after the episode airs to discuss.

Ab Aeterno

Richard Alpert has a difficult decision to make.

What a great episode this week, and for once it actually answered a bunch of questions, but in true LOST style it also left us hanging on things. As far as the easter eggs for the episode goes, the only things that I saw to be true "easter eggs" is that the owner (or person funding the expedition or whatever) of The Black Rock was Magnus Hanso and the guy who financed the Dharma Initiative (right?) was named Alvar Hanso, Magnus' great grandson. So there's a connection between The Black Rock and the Dharma Initiative in one way or another. The only other thing would be the location where we first see Ricardo/Richard in the past, Tenerife, The Canary Islands which is where the worst aviation accident of all time took place in 1977 killing 500+ people (Tenerife Airport Disaster) Other than those I don't know that anything else was really an "easter egg". Sure the white rock being given to the Man in Black by Richard from Jacob was a nice touch, but not really a true easter egg in my mind. Did anyone else notice anything else?

There were also a few questions answered this week like what happened to the giant statue on the beach, how did Richard end up on the island and how is it that he doesn't age... We also got a vague answer on exactly what the island is, or so we're lead to believe... whether or not it's true I'm not sure. And there's still the looming question over who is actually good and who is bad between the Man in Black and Jacob. I know the obvious thing is to say that the Man in Black is bad and Jacob is good, but I still have my doubts.

Going with the theory that Jacob is good and MiB is bad, what if the Man in Black is actually the god Loki, angel of death and Jacob is Heimdall also known as "the whitest of Gods".

From Wikipedia:

Heimdall, as guardian, is described as being able to hear grass growing and single leaves falling, able to see to the end of the world, and so alert that he requires no sleep at all. Heimdall is described as a son of Odin, perhaps a foster son. Heimdall was destined to be the last of the gods to perish at Ragnarök when he and Loki would slay one another.

I know it's probably a stretch, but some of this can also be used to describe Jacob while the fact that Loki is known to be a shape-shifter and the story also states that Loki was eventually bound by the entrails of his son, which keeps him from shifting shape, thus binding him to his current form... sound familiar?  So that's my big theory for this week and I think it has some merit, but we'll have to wait and see.

Now for what questions were answered. Richard ended up on the island when he was bought as a slave and put on The Black Rock ship as it sailed for the new land only to end up crashing into the island. When the ship crashed, it rode an extremely high wave created by a massive storm, which smashed the ship into the statue and sent it deep into the jungle. We also learned that Jacob gave Richard the power to live for ever when Richard told him that if he couldn't ever see his wife again then he never wanted to die, and this is apparently one of the things Jacob could give him. We also learned that Jacob brings people to the island to show the Man in Black that people are capable of being good on their own (or something like that, someone clear me up if I don't have it 100% right).

Jacob also explains a little bit about what the island is. Basically he says that it's a "cork" keeping evil from spreading throughout the rest of the world, he uses the wine bottle to display his point to Richard. So after having just played through God of War III this week, there's a very similar item in mythology that does the exact same thing... Pandora's Box. So what if the island is Pandora's Box... Jacob says that the island is there to hold evil in and keep it from spreading, which is exactly what Pandora's Box was for. And actually in the original stories Pandora's Box is not a "box" at all... it's a jar!

Also, when Richard meets the Man in Black at his "lair", as I'm referring to it as, under the tree with the stone "throne", etc. it seems as though that tree could be The Tree of Life which according [again] to wikipedia:

According to the Encyclopædia Britannica, the tree of knowledge, connecting heaven and the underworld, and the tree of life, connecting all forms of creation, are both forms of the world tree or cosmic tree.[1] According to some scholars, the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, portrayed in various religions and philosophies, are the same tree.[2]

So again, there's that connection between heaven and hell which would make some sense since if it's a gateway, then evil could be present and trying to get free... So a lot of stuff happened last night which leads to a lot of different theories and possibilities and I'm sure a lot of you out there have more of your own so lets hear them...

LOST: Season 6 – Recon (3/16/10)

Looks like tonight's episode of LOST may be about Sawyer. The plot synopsis is below and I'll be back tomorrow with easter eggs, theories and whatever else I can find.

Recon

The Locke Monster sends Sawyer on a mission.

Alright, quick recap time (and it will be quick because I don't really have a whole lot to say about last night's episode). The main thing that we saw this week was that Sawyer chose to be a cop instead of a con man in the Alternate Reality, so it's like without being touched by Jacob they all have free will to make decisions on their own, where as when they were touched by Jacob he pretty much set their paths for them and thus their decisions, as free as they may have seemed at the time, were already made for them in order to get them to the island. There are still some tendencies in the AR that we have seen in the normal timeline like the fact that Sawyer is still trying to track down the con man that lead to his parents murder/suicide so it seems as though some things don't change. And then in the island reality we saw Sawyer working his con man magic and playing both sides of the field by trying to strike deals with both Smocke (Smoke Monster Locke) and Widmore to get off the island, but in the end he just wants to get them to fight each other so he can steal the sub and get off on his own.

There was a little interaction between Kate, Claire and Smocke. Claire tries to kill Kate because she took Aaron from her, but that's not the best part of that scene, the best part is the fact that Sayid is clearly not himself as he just sat there without even flinching when Claire attacked Kate. So I don't think Claire is necessarily "infected" as they put it, but rather did just go crazy after being out in the woods for 3 years where as Sayid is definitely "infected" and is starting to change somehow.

So along with that, Widmore and his people have made it back onto the Hydra island (across from the main island) and are starting to set up shop. They are erecting pylons which presumably are similar to the pylons that surrounded the dharma town and protected them from the smoke monster. It's also unclear as to whether or not Widmore and his people are the ones that killed all of the remaining passengers on the Ajira flight that Sawyer found dead in a pile. The woman that Sawyer chases and catches claims that their people did not kill them and I kind of believe her. My only reasoning is that the bodies already stunk like crazy and the flies were abundant near them, meaning they had to have been dead for at least a few days/weeks (I can't remember the timeline and how long it's been since the plane crashed there and the Losties returned to the island). So if Widmore's people only just recently arrived on the island it would make sense that they didn't kill them, but again I'm not sure how many days have past since things have happened.

So that's pretty much all I have, but I will leave you with 2 last things. Widmore's sub had a mysterious locked door in it that Sawyer made a point to point out, so it has to be something purposeful... but what? I'm going to say that I think it's Desmond and he has a lot more to do with this whole thing than anyone thinks up until this point. And the last thing is a quick Easter Egg, in the AR there is a guy at the Police station asking about his brother being arrested on a drug charge, it's a very quick exchange between him and Sawyer and I didn't pick it up at first, but it's Charlie's brother. So that's that, I'm sure there's something I missed so please feel free to let us know in the comments.
