4th Floor Rock Band

As we do every labor day weekend my family headed up to northern Wisconsin to go boating, jet skiing, golfing and drinking. I have an aunt/uncle and cousins that live up that way, but the rest of the family lives near Chicago, so those of us around Chicago head up every year to see them. So Saturday night my cousins from up there were going to walk down the street to check out a local rock band that they were friends with. They thought I would like the band and it was something to do other than sitting around the resort which can get a little boring at night. So we walked down the road to the local watering hole, which is basically what you'd expect from a local woodland bar.

The band was setup on a small wooden stage in the corner of the backyard surrounded by a bunch of picnic tables. We found an empty spot and sat down expecting a fairly shitty cover band, but that's not what we got. 4th Floor is the name of the band and I was completely blown away by what I heard. Sure they didn't play a whole lot of original stuff, but the covers they played were impressive and the originals that they did play were pretty good. I think there was only one song that I didn't really care for and it was their last song of the night. It was more screaming than singing and I can't really get into that kinda stuff, but up until that point every song they played was good. I don't know too much about them besides what I saw this weekend, but if you're into bands like Breaking Benjamin, Shinedown, Seether and that kinda stuff, you'll probably enjoy these guys. So if you have a second give the song above a listen and if you like them head on over to their youtube channel or myspace page and listen to some other tracks.

Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman

Has this dude lost it? I seriously hope that this is some sort of stunt/act and that Casey Affleck is filming some faux documentary about an actor leaving behind an amazing career to focus on rap... Kinda like This is Spinal Tap. If it's not an act someone needs to step in before he ends up dead in a River... Phoenix.

Do you think this is a joke? I've read that he never breaks character no matter where he goes and if it is a joke he's very committed. Personally I think it's a joke, but I guess we'll just have to see.

What are you thoughts? Leave a comment and let us know.

ps: I'll embed the video in this post later today.

A Friend Called Fire

A friend of mine's brother is in this band called "A Friend Called Fire" and they are playing a show this weekend in Chicago which I unfortunately cannot make. Instead I figured I'd give them a little shout out here so that you guys could take a listen and see what you think. The music is more new-rock type stuff, kinda reminds me a little of Incubus (just a little) and some other band but I can't put my finger on it, it just sounds familiar. So check it out and let me know what you think.

You can download their whole EP album over at http://www.afriendcalledfire.net

Eminem ft. Dr. Dre & 50 Cent – Crack A Bottle

A couple months ago I put up a YouTube video of a song written by Eminem called Crack a Bottle. It was produced by Dr. Dre (apparently) and was also supposed to feature him on the track, but at the time only Em had rapped on it, doing all 3 verses himself (2 of Dre's and his own), but now I bring you the finished version, which has actually been floating around for a little while now. This version is mastered and features Eminem doing the chorus and 1st verse, Dr. Dre on the 2nd verse and 50 Cent on the last verse. You can listen to it above via YouTube or download it below, for the time being.

Apple Macworld 2009 Keynote Announcements

What a let down...

Things announced today: iLife 09, iWork 09, new MacBook Pro 17" Aluminum body non-removable battery, iTunes new pricing, DRM Free songs, and 3G downloading on the iPhone... that's it. There was nothing mentioned about new iMacs or new Mac Minis, nothing about a new version of the iPhone, whether that be a bigger one or a smaller one, no mention of the push iChat functionality that the iPhone was supposed to get last September (which is what I'm waiting for)... nothing.

So chalk Macworld 2009 up as one lame announcement after another. I love Apple and their products, but I'm quite disappointed in what they did and didn't announce today. What did you guys think?
