DVD & Blu-Ray Releases For March 9, 2010

Here are the DVD and Blu-Ray releases for Tuesday March 9th, 2010. Notable releases for this week are Old Dogs, Planet 51, Up in the Air and Precious, all of which I have not seen so I can’t make recommendations. However, I have seen Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day and while it doesn’t stand up to the original at all, it’s still entertaining. I don’t know if I can recommend it as a ‘buy’ for those of you that aren’t hardcore fans of the movie, but definitely check it out.

82nd Annual Academy Award Nominations

The Oscar nominations were announced this morning with no real surprises. The ceremony will be held on March 7th and will be broadcast on ABC. I posted a list of the nominations after the jump if you’re interested, but my predictions are below.

Best Picture – I hope it goes to The Hurt Locker or Inglorious Basterds, but there’s some tough competition between Avatar and Up in the Air. And in a long shot I would love to see District 9 win, but it won’t, but I’m glad they got the nomination.

Best Actor – I’m not too sure on this one since I haven’t seen these movies, but I would like to see Jeff Bridges win this one.

Best Actress – I’m pulling for Sandra Bullock on this one.

Best Supporting Actor – If Christoph Waltz does not win this for Inglorious Basterds I will boycott the Oscars.

Best Supporting Actress – I honestly have no clue when it comes to this category so I’m not even going to try.

Best Director – I hope Kathryn Bigelow wins for The Hurt Locker, but I have a feeling James Cameron may walk away with this one. And my longshot pick is Tarantino.

Best Animated Feature – I hope UP wins this one, but a lot of people seemed to give Coraline a lot of praise, I found it kind of boring.

Best Original Screenplay – I think The Hurt Locker will get this one also, but possibly Inglorious Basterds.

Best Adapted Screenplay – Up In The Air will most likely win despite the fact that I have a hard-on for District 9.

Best Foreign Language Film – The Milk of Sorrow only because the title sounds awesome.

Best Film Editing – I think if District 9 can pull out one award it may be this one, it definitely had the most creative editing out of all the nominations, but again, Avatar may take it as well.

Best Documentary Feature - I’ve only seen Food, Inc. and wasn’t too impressed so I’m not sure what to make of these nominees.

Best Art Direction – I think Nine or Avatar will take this one.

Best Cinematography – Either Avatar or Inglorious Basterds
