Keeping the vein of Paranormal Activity comes the Latin American movie “La Casa Muda” or “The Silent House”. What’s unique about this one, besides it’s $6,000 budget, is the fact that it is billed as being one continuous shot… for 72 minutes! Now obviously they aren’t going to admit it, but I have a feeling that this was not shot as one continuous shot, but rather made to look it through the use of creative editing. It also claims to be based on a true story, but then again what movie isn’t these days… So give the trailer a look and let us know what you think. I’m kind of excited for this one after watching the trailer and yes, it’s because of that 72 minute continuous shot marketing… I’m not sure when it’s supposed to come out, but you can read the plot synopsis below.

Laura (Florencia Colucci) and her father Wilson (Gustavo Alonso) settle down in a cottage that seems to be off the beaten track in order to update it since its owner (Abel Tripaldi) will soon put the house up for sale. They will spend the night there in order to start the repairs the following morning. Everything seems to go smoothly until Laura hears a sound that comes from outside and gets louder and louder on the upper floor of the house. Wilson goes up to see what is going on while she remains downstairs on her own, waiting for her father to come down. The plot is based on a true story that happened some time ago in a small village in Uruguay. La Casa Muda focuses on the last seventy-eight minutes, second by second, while Laura attempts to leave the house, which hides an obscure secret, unharmed.

REAL FEAR IN REAL TIME is the most remarkable underlying feature of the film, which will not go unnoticed by all those who may be willing to experience this different and disturbing filming experience.

From the description this sounds like a boring episode, but of course nothing is boring at the Fantasy Factory when Rob is around.

Rob brings in business guru Joel Bauer to mentor the ‘Fantasy Factory’ employees to success.

Come back and let us know what you thought of the episode in the comments!

Update: So last nights episode featured Joel Bauer who apparently wasted 25 years of his life coming up with an absolutely ridiculous business card that nobody is going to want to carry around with him, yet he believes it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. Rob invites him into the Fantasy Factory to revamp his own business card and to whip the crew into shape, I guess. The business card the guy comes up with is exactly the same as his, but with Rob’s picture on it instead. I guess once you figure out the secret to business cards you just duplicate that for anyone that asks (or pays). Seriously the business cards are the size of a postcard and have an annoying pop up in the middle when you open it. It’s not going to fit in a wallet or a portfolio made to carry business cards so despite what this guy is telling you, most people are probably going to throw the thing away seeing as how it’s going to be an inconvenience to carry around. Then the guy just makes Big Cat feel completely uncomfortable and leaves… Seems like Rob really got his moneys worth here. I remember seeing this idiot’s video online on sites like break.com, where people just ripped him apart, never did I think this dude was actually serious, but apparently he is…

Next up was the Sidehack, a bicycle with a sidecar on it so that you never have to ride BMX alone. Ok, it’s kind of a cool idea, but I could never see myself using one for more than a couple minutes just to try it out. They did look kinda fun in the skatepark, but I don’t think anyone is going to want to be the monkey for very long, plus those things didn’t seem too stable. Dave Mirra came to the factory to test the thing out and Rob and him did a backflip into the foam pit which was kind of impressive… In the end this guy was just looking for an investor to get these things made so he came to Rob. Rob had Jeremy call Walmart and get everything set up and apparently you can now find these Sidehacks in Walmart, however I couldn’t find any on their website so maybe you can’t get them just yet.

Overall a pretty good episode, I have to agree with Drama when he said something about how any normal person would watch a video of some crazy dude pushing business cards and think it was ridiculous, yet Rob watches these things and immediately has to get the dude into the factory… but it makes for good TV, so keep it up.

New Apple iPod Announcements

So Apple hosted an event this afternoon to announce some new products. The first big thing was that Steve Jobs was back to present and it was nice to see him up and about again. He still looks thin, but who cares, at least he’s getting better. And now on to the real product announcements, but before I get into this I just want to say that I wasn’t too impressed. Pretty much everything that was announced today had leaked the last couple weeks (or longer) and some of the things that people thought were happening did not. Obviously the Apple Tablet did not get announced, but that really didn’t surprise me as this was a music oriented event. I was a little surprised that the iPod Touches / Classic did not get a camera today, but there have been rumblings that they were just delayed do to some technical problem, but we’ll see. Now that we’ve discussed what didn’t get announced, let’s talk about what did…

iPhone 3.1 firmware will be released today. They didn’t go into much detail about what is included in this update, but you can head over to http://www.apple.com/iphone/softwareupdate and read all about them. Personally I don’t think it’s anything too impressive, but you can be the judge.

Next up iTunes 9.0. A good amount of features added to the new version that I’m looking forward to playing around with. The ability to manage the apps on your iPhone screens and download lyrics, booklets, album covers, etc with your iTunes purchases is kind of cool. I think the whole redesign of features and screens in iTunes is going to be a nice change of pace.

Lastly, iPods. The iPod touch gets a new price point of $199 for the 8gb, $299 for the 32gb, and $399 for the 64gb, but no cameras. The iPod classic is now 160gb for the same price, $249. And the iPod shuffle is still around, but you will now be able to use different headphones or something. Do people really buy the shuffle? And last but not least the iPod Nano now has a video camera. Apple is trying to compete with the mini video cameras like the Flip Mino and the Creative Vado by adding cameras to the nano. Personally I don’t think the video is going to compare to those cameras, but we’ll have to wait and see until someone does a side by side comparison. I know this is to compete with the original Mino, but I have a Creative VadoHD and the video is much better than my iPhone 3GS’ video.

And that’s that, IMO nothing terribly exciting. I don’t find any of the iPhone 3.1 features really worthy of updating until the dev team comes up with a way to jailbreak and the iPod updates don’t really concern me as I’m perfectly happy with my 120gb iPod Classic. So what did you guys think of what Apple announced today? Are you going to run out and pick up a new iPod Nano just because of the camera?

4th Floor Rock Band

As we do every labor day weekend my family headed up to northern Wisconsin to go boating, jet skiing, golfing and drinking. I have an aunt/uncle and cousins that live up that way, but the rest of the family lives near Chicago, so those of us around Chicago head up every year to see them. So Saturday night my cousins from up there were going to walk down the street to check out a local rock band that they were friends with. They thought I would like the band and it was something to do other than sitting around the resort which can get a little boring at night. So we walked down the road to the local watering hole, which is basically what you’d expect from a local woodland bar.

The band was setup on a small wooden stage in the corner of the backyard surrounded by a bunch of picnic tables. We found an empty spot and sat down expecting a fairly shitty cover band, but that’s not what we got. 4th Floor is the name of the band and I was completely blown away by what I heard. Sure they didn’t play a whole lot of original stuff, but the covers they played were impressive and the originals that they did play were pretty good. I think there was only one song that I didn’t really care for and it was their last song of the night. It was more screaming than singing and I can’t really get into that kinda stuff, but up until that point every song they played was good. I don’t know too much about them besides what I saw this weekend, but if you’re into bands like Breaking Benjamin, Shinedown, Seether and that kinda stuff, you’ll probably enjoy these guys. So if you have a second give the song above a listen and if you like them head on over to their youtube channel or myspace page and listen to some other tracks.
